Uh Oh, Melo Is Currently Working Out With The Brooklyn Nets Out In LA
By all accounts the Nets have had a great summer. They landed two big fish, shook off their little bother label and took over NYC, and have big time expectations heading into next season even with Kevin Durant missing the entire thing. It’s safe to say given their solid front office, good coach and collection of intriguing young talent that the Nets are finally trending in the right direction after having to tear it all down and rebuild. So naturally the only missing piece is to add Carmelo Anthony.
If you go on to read that article it explains how Melo has been participating with Nets players in scrimmages set up by Kyrie Irving (how cute). You know who has a ton of weight in BKN now? Kyrie Irving. Seeing as how they’ll need someone to help fill in scoring wise with KD out, if you ignore Melo’s actual production over the last three seasons and focus more on what he did when he was in his prime he actually makes some sense. The fact that we hear more rumors about LAL and this is the first we hear of a potential link to BKN makes me want to take this more seriously. Add in getting turned down by the Knicks earlier this summer, what better way to get back at them than to link up with the two guys the Knicks thought they were getting in the first place. I need this to happen.
The problem is math is not on Melo’s side. The Nets already have 15 players on their roster, and unless they get some sort of medical exemption for KD or something for next season, they’re going to have to cut someone to add him. They also already have a shit ton of guys that play Melo’s 3/4 position that are certainly not about to see a cut in minutes.
My brain says Kyrie is just doing his friend a solid and letting him get some run in while he still waits for an NBA team and that Melo definitely isn’t ending up in BKN. My heart says where there’s smoke there is fire and in a league that thrives on drama this absolutely needs to happen.
